We are seeing Primary Care in St Helens through a New Light St Helens sits in the heart of the North West of England located between the great Northern power house cities of Liverpool and Manchester. Few locations can match the offer we have, both for your professional and personal life.
Our History St Helens, as a borough, came to prominence during the industrial revolution – a centre for innovation in glass making, chemical production, pharmaceuticals, Stevenson’s Rocket and coal mining. This rich industrial heritage and the town’s vision for the future is encapsulated by Dream, the 20m sculpture on the site of the Sutton Manor Colliery, highly visible on your journey into St Helens. Inspired by the St Helens motto, Ex Terra Lucem, (‘From the ground, Light’) the colossal sculpture of a young girl’s face looks to the future of the town, building on the foundations of its past. This innovative spirit and transformational vision is at the heart of Primary Care in St Helens today. We see that the inevitable challenge of change in the NHS today offers Primary Care exciting opportunities. Our Vision We are developing locality working to ensure Practice sustainability, we are championing education and training in Primary Care for doctors as well as nonmedical support staff, we are striving to develop transformational patient focused projects, we are wrapping clinical and social support networks around General Practice, but we are retaining the bedrock of General Practice - high quality family focused holistic medicine. Our Offer We are looking to expand our GP Clinician base by not only looking to attract ‘traditional’ GPs but also proactively encouraging portfolio careers. We are looking for General Practitioners with the desire to not only care for our expanding population, but also the drive to develop areas of special clinical interest and expertise. The borough already has a robust Primary Care led Community clinic offering for GPs with a special interest in Dermatology, Gynaecology and ENT, but by working in partnership with our local Community and Secondary Care Trusts there are opportunities to develop and enhance a special interest in many areas including Medicine in the Elderly, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Accident and Emergency and Diabetes to name a few. A typical working week could combine working sessions in a Practice, a Primary Care hub, a hospital outpatient department or a Community clinic. Whatever stage of your career you are at, however you see your career developing, St Helens has opportunities to help support your personal vision, as well as our vision for our population. Our Place Re-location to St Helens offers many different places you can call home, from affordable new housing developments to rural villages as well as beautiful countryside on your door step and urban green spaces. The area also boasts good and outstanding primary to secondary schools, as well as further education Colleges, including Carmel 6th Form College, which has Beacon Status for outstanding performance. On your doorstep, you will find Knowsley Safari Park, Super League Rugby, sailing and fishing at the local reservoirs, horse riding and golf, as well as Haydock Park Racecourse. The great cities of Liverpool and Manchester are both within a 30 minute commute, as is Manchester International Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport. A little further afield the Lake District, the Peak District and Snowdonia National Park in North Wales offer the best that the United Kingdom can offer in outdoor activities and big scenery! We are seeing Primary Care in St Helens through a New Light. We would love you to join us.
